Flytiers Page
Hi and welcome to this page that is dedicated to my fly fishing addiction. I've been a fly fisherman ever since I was a kid but I've only recently started recording a few of my fly fishing successes with a camera.
Anyway, here are a few of the pictures that I've snapped in the past few years - you can click on any of these to open up full resolution views of the same pictures (can be slow!):
Here are some unsorted RECENT TRIP PICTURES - click here.
First, some gorgeous Pyramid Lake Lahontan Cutthroat trout from my recent trips...
My biggest trout ... 10lbs 1oz taken on a midge from Pyramid Lake 5/8/2010 - the fish was released unharmed after taking this picture.
Another Pyramid Lake LCT (this one was 'steelhead size' - released but I estimate it at somewhere around 8-9lbs)....
More fun at Pyramid Lake...
Where beautiful fish abound...
Recent stuff from Spring 2008....

A 40 (huge) fish day really was confirmed!!......

A 25lb salmon from the American River...
Here is a nice wild ~4lb Rainbow that was a bit of a Lake Tulloch surprise..
This is a nice way to spend the day...
On a gorgeous High Sierras Lake..
With some rewards... one in the net (@ ~5.5lbs) from this secret location ..
Here is a nice Steelhead (~9lbs) on a very cold morning
And another nice fresh 29" Steelhead (~9lbs) on a much nicer morning
A fat 5.5lb trout from a secret lake...
A 7.5 lb Rainbow and a ~5lb Rainbow from a secret place..
About to release a wild trout on theStanislaus River..
A fine (and very tasty) Atlantic Salmon "grilse" from the River Tweed in Scotland on a trip back home..
Finally here are just a few samples of my own fly tying...
BH Teeny Leech My "steelhead deadly" version of a Jim Teeny pattern
Wooly Sculpin - A Kelly Galloup pattern
Zoo Cougar - A Kelly Galloup pattern
Seal Bugger -- this one is deadly!! Many thanks to Denny Rickards for creating this particular pattern (it has accounted for many of my larger fish in recent years) If I had to be limited to just one fly in the lakes of California this would be it.
My own patterns...
A particularly deadly midge pattern - this one I have developed myself taking key bite triggering components from other working designs
"Robert's Midge" - based on my earlier midge design but now much faster and easier to tie and totally DEADLY when it is fished in stillwater dangling 3-6' beneath an indicator. Hang on tight when the big fish are cruising and feeding on hatching midges! (which in my experience is very often in most lakes). This is THE best midge pattern that I know and the long red flashabou section seems to trigger a lot more bites than a solid red or solid black body does (so naturally I'm proud of this design). It also just looks that much more "worm-like" in the water which is probably what makes it so effective.
